Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Shakedown Street

August 17, 2016

Earlier this year, the National’s Aaron and Bryce Dessner released their long-promised, and super grandiose Grateful Dead tribute album Day of the Dead. Featured on the massive celebration was Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s version of “Shakedown Street”—a song they performed on “Conan.”

The original tune already carried a whole lot of funk, but UMO also threw in some of their well-known psychedelic nuances to make the track one of the most ambitious (and probably best) covers on the entire collection. Now, UMO’s Dead cover has its own music video directed by the Business Company.

The video is a serious trip, following three people in shiny black outfits drink the kool-aide and wander around city streets. Completely original and totally strange. Watch it below.
