Cave Singers-That's Why

the-cave-singers-banshee The Cave Singers go back to the basics for their upcoming fifth studio album, Banshee, which they recently announced will be self-released on February 19.

Banshee brings Cave Singers back to their original 3 piece lineup, back to the way they originally wrote records - starting with a riff from guitarist Derek Fudesko being sent to Pete Quirk, who would come up with the lyrical ideas - and back to making the music the way they want without having to answer to a label. A press release notes that following working relationships with the Matador and Jagjaguwar imprints, Cave Singers opted to go with a DIY and completely new approach this time around.

The Seattle rockers led a triumphant IndieGoGo campaign, collecting over $23,000 through the crowd sourcing site, which they "used directly to record, mix, master, and finally manufacture the album." The album was tracked last July with producer Randall Dunn, who had also sat behind the boards for the group's 2011 effort, No Witch. The six-day session is said to have yielded 10 live tracks that are "warmly anchored in the members' creative familiarity with one another."

The album's lead single "That's Why" is a straightforward and snarly rock tune, unadorned by over production and music layers, but rather punctuates the simple thud of Fudesko's guitar and the silky wale of a backing harmonica. Listen to the new track below.
