Hot Chip-Dancing in the Dark

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyN_d28-sfw In 1984, Bruce Springsteen released one of his most legendary hits, "Dancing In The Dark." His performance won him the MTV Video Music Award for Best Overall Performance in a Video and sparked a range of renditions in the years following from the likes of Tina Turner, Tegan & Sara, and punk outfit Downtown Boys.

However it's Hot Chip's recent performance of the uptempo track that undoubtedly does the original the most justice. Heavily doused with energetic and speedy synth, Hot Chip reinvigorates the played out '84 hit with their signature electropop glory. From the instant the synths start in, and Alexis Taylor's voice interjects the culminating back beat with the song's famed first verse, you feel beckoned to the dance floor. Something made routine by Hot Chip's disco edge. Around the 5:10 mark (right after you see the little homie shoulder shaking at 5:04) the track seamlessly morphs into a tidbit cover of LCD Soundsystem's "All My Friends," before its fadeout.

Hot Chip has been seen performing their unique imprint of the song at festivals like Glastonbury, Lollapalooza and Outside Lands, as well as at a number of their live shows while currently on the road. The British dance-rock group released their Born in the U.S.A. cover, complete with a retro video, directed by Kelly + Victor‘s Keiran Evans, packed with peculiar 80s public access television footage from obscure shows like The Kids of Tomorrow, Clubbing Network, Lonely Hearts, and Cosy Chats alongside video of the band in concert.

Hot Chip's Springsteen cover will serve as the opening track on their new Dancing in the Dark EP out October 23rd, alongside three remixes of songs off their upcoming deluxe edition of their LP Why Make Sense? out October 24th.
