This Week Through The Lens 3.0

“Through the Lens” is Havoc TV’s featured flick column. Each week we source the best surf and skate snaps from up-and-coming, already legendary, or important but overlooked Instagram photographers.

ttl1

Fred Pompermayer (@fred_pompermayer)

Fred's client list boasts surf big whigs like Quiksilver, Oneil, Billabong, and Volcom, and can be seen in or on the cover of a range of surf mags on stands right now. Fred customizes and builds water housings for his cameras and flashes, innovating with new technologies to bring his epic vision alive. He has a knack for catching those unbelievable moments in surfing like this shot of "Flea" Virotsko at the Eddie Aikau surf contest in 2004.

ttl8

Joe Hammeke (@ham_n_cheese)

Joe Hammeke is a busy dude. He's a staff photographer for Thrasher and is constantly working on other skate photo projects. He shot this photo of  Alex Cruysberghs going the distance on a long ass rail for Toymachine's Sleepover Tour.

ttl7

Roberto Alegria (@roberto_alegria)

The Barcelona-based photographer snaps skate photos that besides merely catching a trick in the frame, stand as total works of art. Roberto's impeccable compositions of skaters in unbelievable settings is captivating. Roberto shoots primarily in medium format film and digitally. This shot is a throwback to Alain Goikoetxea- doing a BS Smith grind over the death box  at LA Kantera skate park.

ttl6

Davy Van Laere (@dvlphoto)

DVL always has a camera in hand. He is the Vans EU Skateboard team photographer and just earned himself the highly acclaimed award of European Skateboard photographer of the year at the BESA awards 2015. DVL has worn every hat, from professional skateboarder and musician to photo editor and magazine owner. DVL shoots @sebastiaanvijverberg's Frontside Smith for photos that accompany his interview in issue 3 of @freeskatemag.

ttl4

Fred Mortagne (@frenchfred)

"French" Fred's skateboard photos are something of black and white greatness. Skateboarding and filmmaking have long been at the center of Fred's life and career. He's become a documentarian of the skateboarding lifestyle, working with brands like Leica and Element. This is a beautiful BS Smithgrind by Nassim Guammaz at the Venice Skatepark.

ttl3

Brandon 'Laserwolf' Campbell (@laserwolf.photo)

When Brandon isn't shooting, he is surfing, or more likely bodysurfing, which he does to keep in swim shape for shooting Pipe from the water.  If you particularly enjoy water shooting, check out his profile; it's filled with sharp, in-the-moment shots of some of the most badass surfers shredding the North Shore.  In the photo above, @sealtooth slices through foam.

ttl5

Jake Darwen (@jakedarwen)

This shot of @thaynancosta doing an Impossible in Mexico earned itself a spot in the latest issue of @theskateboardmag, but that's nothing new for Jake who's photos regularly find themselves on the glossy pages of skate magazines. Jake’s extraordinary ability to creatively capture the landscape around the subject make for some unique skate photos.

ttl2

Anthony Acosta (@aacosta)

Anthony Acosta snapped this shot of Josh Borden (@ibeborden) getting dirty in a rusty silo for @theskateboardmag's issue #142. Anthony has been shooting skatebaording for years all over his hometown city of Los Angeles. For Acosta is all about shooting the in-between moments of skateboarding. Capturing the spirit of the people that live and die on a skateboard.
