Soundtrack Syllabus: Toy Machine's "Welcome to Hell"

October 20, 2016

Believe it or not Toy Machine's seminal "Welcome to Hell" skate video came out twenty years ago. The ground-breaking skateboard video not only revolutionized insane slam sections, it left skaters stunned by what Toy's amateurs and pros were pulling, including Ed Templeton, Brian Anderson, Elissa Steamer, Donny Barley, Mike Maldonado, and Jamie Thomas.

Directed by Jamie Thomas, "Welcome To Hell" changed the face of skateboarding by introducing a more hardcore mindset to the scene. The Toy Machine team, notably Thomas himself, really pushed the limits of what was considered gnarly at that time by skating bigger rails and gaps. In his part, Thomas lipslides a handrail barefoot to Iron Maiden.

Listen to the full soundtrack of "Welcome to Hell" below, and check out Ed Templeton rapping out about the video as well.
