A Near-Perfect Day at Mavericks

November 22, 2016

Despite being one of the worlds biggest and deadliest waves, Mavericks draws eager big-wave riders from all over the world to catch a drop into its awesome pushing power.

Located 20 minutes south of San Francisco in Northern California’s Pillar Point Harbor, Mavericks has become a sort of ‘holy grail’ in the surf world. The wave routinely breaks at 25 feet and has even broke heights of an impressive 60 feet.

Although it’s daunting nature, Jon Aspuru has captured Mavericks in all its beauty. Featuring big wave surfers from Natxo Gonzalez to Ben Wilkinson, Aspuru’s monochromatic film shows these brave souls as they attempt to gracefully tame this wild behemoth of a wave. Watch the near-perfect day at Mavericks below.
