HOLY MEOLA!

August 3, 2016

Maui is a breeding ground for creative and surfing talent. Surfers like Kai Barger, Dusty Payne, and Clay Marzo, have all come out of the small Hawaiian island, and siblings Matt and Lily Meola are amongst the passionate folks that continue to prove the island's home grown talents.

The Meola siblings have helped drive each other's passions to new heights by supporting one another's careers both in and out of the ocean. In The Inertia's new video Holy Meola!, we get a telling and carefree portrait of the dynamic brother-sister duo, who have continued to push boundaries in their respective crafts. While Matt can usually be found soaring above the waves testing out one of his new airs or proving his utter explosiveness while charging Jaws, his sister Lily can be found crooning alongside Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson, with her velvety, soulful sound. They both posses an unparralleled resilience that allowed for each of them to bust down the doors of success.

Their achievements at such young ages is utterly impressive and Holy Meola! reveals not only the charming personalities each possesses, but the strong familial bonds that have helped them succeed to where they are today.

Watch Holy Meola! below.

In 1997, Spiritualized's album Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space was named album of the year by NME magazine over much more glorified opus albums like Radiohead's OK Computer and The Verve's Urban Hymns. The newest release from Jason Pierce & Co., And Nothing Hurt, is a similarly ambitious blend of shoegazer rock and indie R&B that is sure to keep his legion of fans happy, but let's hope that with lyrics like "Gonna burn brightly for a while/and then you're gone," it's not the last.
On their 6th album, veteran indie rock brooders Interpol team up with producer Dave Fridmann for their latest offering, Marauder. As always their songs are anchored by the moody tenor of dapper lead singer and sometime surfer Paul Banks. The only thing missing from previous releases are the strong bass lines of long time collaborator Carlos Dengler. Standout tracks are "The Rover" and "Stay in Touch."
