Hanni El Khatib - Mangos & Rice

June 15, 2016

Hanni El Khatib is one multitalented dude. He used to be the creative director of HUF, and now he’s a super hip indie rock kinda guy.

His new EP, Savage Times Vol.2, hasjust dropped, and to celebrate, he’s released a video for one of its tracks, "Mangos & Rice". This isn’t just any ol’ music video, however. The clip showcases some extremely rare and exclusive 80s and early 90s skate footage of HUF’s own Keith Hufnagel, as well as some of the greats including Keenan Milton, Gino Iannucci, Jon Buscemi and more shredding throughout NY during that time period.

Supposedly Hanni and Keith dug through two shoeboxes filled with old Hi8, VHS, Super8 and Mini DV tapes in order to compile the footage for the video. The vintage footage shows the skate legends doing what they do best on the streets of New York a couple decades back, while sporting some pretty questionable haircuts and baggy clothing.

The new EP is a follow up to his three-track April release, Savage Times Vol.1.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy some Mangos & Rice.

In 1997, Spiritualized's album Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space was named album of the year by NME magazine over much more glorified opus albums like Radiohead's OK Computer and The Verve's Urban Hymns. The newest release from Jason Pierce & Co., And Nothing Hurt, is a similarly ambitious blend of shoegazer rock and indie R&B that is sure to keep his legion of fans happy, but let's hope that with lyrics like "Gonna burn brightly for a while/and then you're gone," it's not the last.
On their 6th album, veteran indie rock brooders Interpol team up with producer Dave Fridmann for their latest offering, Marauder. As always their songs are anchored by the moody tenor of dapper lead singer and sometime surfer Paul Banks. The only thing missing from previous releases are the strong bass lines of long time collaborator Carlos Dengler. Standout tracks are "The Rover" and "Stay in Touch."
