Gangster Doodles Transforms 3x3 Post-It Notes of Rappers & Basketball Stars Into Works Of Art With New Book

July 18, 2017

Artist Marlon Sassy, better known to most as Gangster Doodles, is set to release his new book entitled "Gangster Doodles", on August 4th. The book will feature more than 336-pages of Gangster Doodles illustrating rappers, ballers, players, thugs and gangsters. All illustrations are done on 3x3 yellow post-it notes using common office supplies such as fluorescent highlighters, sharpies & pens. The foreword for the book was done by Stones Throw art director Jeff Jank, the music label's creative director behind some of the label's iconic artwork.

The artist known as Gangster Doodles has been obsessively drawing and publishing them online at Gangster Doodles on Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram for the past couple years, amassing a cult following of fans that are constantly craving his next artist interpretation. Gangster Doodles has illustrated everyone from music stars like Frank Ocean, Jay-Z, and Migos, and pop-culture icons from the worlds of sports, wrestling, and television in his unique style.

His creative use of negative space, and the way he fills his doodles out with household items like highlighters and ballpoint pens, generates a really unique and satisfying aesthetic.

Gangster Doodles will celebrate the release of "Gangster Doodles" with a signing at Bookmarc in Tokyo, Japan, the specialty bookstore owned and operated by Marc Jacobs.
