Band You Should Know: LA Qoolside

May 22, 2017

Is it just us or has indie music started to become a little overwrought by prescriptive synth-driven melodies and boring songwriting that makes it hard to distinguish one band from the next? Sure there are some "indie" bands that continue to get weird and inventive - King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Parquet Courts, Angel Olsen, Cherry Glazerr - but there aren't many that stand out to us like LA Qoolside.

The Los Angeles-based trio made up of Marika Dahlin and twin brothers Michael and Thomas Mauriello is a refreshing glimmer of creative songwriting, pumping punky percussion, avant effects, and rap-sung vocals over a blatant blast of insatiable beats.

The band regularly performs throughout LA, bringing what might be one of the most entertaining live shows around right now, to audiences all over the city. Check out the band's self-directed videos for most recent singles, "Sad Girl," and "Make It Boom," below.
