Future Relative is an electropop band from New York City that is not only unsigned but somehow only has a startlingly low 367 Facebook fans. I find this so surprising because with the little music Future Relative has currently available, it's very evident they have a strong sense for pop music. In fact, it sounds like something I wouldn't normally blog about because of how effectively pop-ish it is, I would have guessed it to come off of a MTV hit list way before guessing the music to be from an unsigned and nearly unknown group... but this music is just too irresistibly catchy to not spread the word to others.
I accidentally stumbled upon Future Relative a couple months ago and was immediately hooked to their most popular song, "X-Ray Vision" which I looked forward to adding to a party playlist, but much to my dismay I learned that it wasn't available to download essentially
anywhere on the internet either legally or otherwise. After periodically checking up on the group's Facebook page to hopefully catch word of an album or single release, I discovered that Future Relative was releasing an EP titled
Fantasies just a few weeks ago, but that it still wasn't available online. Flash forward to this last weekend when I check my Facebook email to see that
Armand Aviram, the lead singer of Future Relative, personally messaged me with a link to download their five-song Fantasies EP for free. Needless to say I was pretty excited to finally have their music in my own library (even though admittedly, it will mainly receive plays in the social environment rather than my personal devoted listening time).
The Fantasies EP is noticeably the work of a still up-and-coming group, but it shows great promise in the catchy hooks featured in all the songs as well as sounding impressively well mastered and of high quality for a label-less band. Future Relative has been playing live shows across New York City clubs, which seems to be a perfect environment for the group; this is plain and simply great dance floor music.
Strangely, despite me receiving the free EP download link straight from the band's frontman, they haven't yet posted the link publicly; and so if they have some greater marketing plan for selling their EP rather than giving it away to everyone for free, I don't throw them under the bus by spreading the download link. But I'll link you to the catchiest song, "X-Ray Vision" below and just recommend that anyone looking for more from Future Relative should just become a fan or follower on Facebook or Twitter and I imagine that simply asking for a download link will be successful.
If Future Relative can continue to produce hooks like these, then I don't see them remaining so unknown for very much longer:
