Kanye West has come back to the lime light in full force this summer and is showing no signs of slowing down. The rapper/producer superstar has announced that every Friday from now until December 25th he will be releasing a new song online either of his or by other artists he's working with (like Jay-Z, Kid Cudi, or any of his G.O.O.D. Music label artists).
Kanye announced his plan via Twitter a week ago with saying "
I know yall need
the music so I'm dropping 1 new song every weekend until Xmas. It may be
my song it may be a new Jay song etc..." and then "I'm calling it
good Fridays. Yall know every Friday yall gone have a new joint from our
family. We look at the game completely different now". Despite making the announcement after the second week of releasing a new song (first "See Me Now" featuring Beyonce and then the remix to his new single "Power" featuring Jay-Z & Swizz Beatz) I was skeptical whether or not Kanye would keep pace with his ambitious goal, but he followed through once again this Friday, with the release of a large collaboration titled "Monster" featuring Kanye himself, Jay-Z, Bon Iver, Nicki Minaj, and Rick Ross (which can be downloaded here). I still wouldn't say I'm confident that he'll be able to hit every Friday from here until Christmas with a new song, but in the mean time it should be a lot of fun receiving content at a faster pace than ever before.
This comes at the end of a bit of a summer of redemption for Kanye, after he stayed hidden front he spotlight throughout the winter after the infamous Taylor Swift incident last September. Kanye came out of no where in May with a new single, "Power", which later received an
incredibly artistic music video. In perhaps what has made more internet waves this summer than any of his music, Kanye joined Twitter last month and has been heralded by some as having the best tweets... of all time (
seriously though). This stream of new songs which hopefully should continue every week of the year as planned should build up plenty of hype for Mr. West when he releases his next album in November.
