Another one of Kauai's favorite sons passed away yesterday (March 16th, 2011) while surfing giant Maverick's. On one of the biggest days of the year at the infamous Nor Cal big wave spot Maverick's, Sion Milosky went down hard on a bomb and was held down by multiple waves in the set without getting a breath. Sion had been charging all day like he knew Mav's like the back of his hand. He'd been sitting further out and deeper than anyone that day, picking off some of the best waves of the session. At about 6pm, Sion grabbed another bomb and didn't make it around the corner.
After not seeing him come up, good friend Nathan Fletcher began searching for Sion's body, only to find him near the mouth of the harbor (almost a mile away from the peak). By then it was too late. Sion leaves behind his wife and two children. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and the Hawaiian community who have lost some of their most amazing talents in recent years.
