Forthcoming British film 'The Boys Are Back' is set to resonate with the music of Icelandic post-rock group Sigur Ros.

The strange world of Icelandic music seems perfectly suited to film work. Seminal band The Sugarcubes were formed by a group of artists and film makers, giving the world Bjork in the process.

Since then, the nation has produced countless supreme acts including Sigur Ros. The post rock group reached wider prominence thanks to the use of their music in the film 'Vanilla Sky' and the band are set to appear prominently in a forthcoming British production.

New film 'The Boys Are Back' stars Clive Owen, with the family drama set to be directed by Scott Hicks. The soundtrack features a total of seven Sigur Ros tracks as well as one song from Jonsi Bergisson's side project Riceboy Sleeps.

Scott Hicks explained to Iceland On Screen that copyright permission was granted by Sigur Ros themselves after watching the film.

“Initially, I used their songs as a temporary score, but it was working so perfectly that I decided to approach the band directly to see if we could licence the music. I was forewarned that they were extremely picky about what they would allow their music to be used for, but I went to Iceland to screen for them and they simply loved the film."

"Georg, the bass player, said, ‘There is an Icelandic word which I can’t translate which perfectly describes the experience of seeing this film.’ I said, ‘Well have a try’ and he said, ‘The word means you feel better for being alive having seen this film’ which I found was a profoundly moving thing to say.”

Meanwhile, Sigur Ros are said to be working on their new album. Jonsi Bergisson recently released an album with Riceboy Sleeps and is set to begin recording a new solo effort alongside the latest Sigur Ros material.

'The Boys Are Back' is due to be released next year.
