Ra Ra Riot is an indie rock band that bursted onto the scene in the summer of 2008 with their debut LP
The Rhumb Line. After heavy touring in 2009 Ra Ra Riot grew in popularity but hasn't had any new music for the fans until now. Ra Ra Riot's second album,
The Orchard, releases on August 24th, but in the mean time they've released the 3-song
Boy EP which features the first single of
The Orchard, also titled "Boy".
Interestingly enough, of the 3 songs on the
Boy EP my favorite is the second track, "Saccharin and the War", which is the only one of the 3 to not be featured on next month's full album. That being said, all 3 songs from the EP are enjoyable and it feels great to finally have new Ra Ra Riot to listen to.
The Orchard features 10 songs, 9 of which were produced by Barsuk labelmate Chris Walla (of Death Cab for Cutie) who,
if you listen to me, should mean that Walla will have brought out the best in Ra Ra Riot for their 9 songs together. Moreover, the 10th song on the album was produced by Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend who has already worked with Ra Ra Riot's lead singer Wes Miles when they collaborated together for the electronic side project "Discovery" which released their single album
LP last summer.
Ra Ra Riot's
Boy EP is currently available for download on
iTunes and be sure to check out their second full-length album,
The Orchard, releasing on August 24th. I couldn't find any of the EP songs available to stream but you can download the single "Boy" for
free from Ra Ra Riot's official website here:
