Matt and Kim are possibly the happiest duo in all of music and their ear to ear grins are only part of it. The sensational combo seem to pump out nothing but upbeat, quirky indie electronic jams. The two have steadily been building a cult following over the last few years and will be releasing their 3rd studio album, Sidewalks, on November 2nd. They've just released the first song from the new project, titled "Cameras".
Matt and Kim's style of music is very simple but still is distinctly unique from other bands. Matt plays keyboard and performs lead vocals and Kim is the drummer and back-up vocalist. Their songs are lo-fi and typically consist of a synth rhythm paired up with a fairly simple drum beat, but the beats are always catchy and it's Matt's style of half-singing/half-shouting that makes the duo's stand out.
After first emerging onto the scene in 2005 with an EP titled "To/From", the group put out a full-length album in 2006 which gradually picked up buzz and turned heads on the internet (including mine). They went on tour with Natalie Portman's Shaved Head and The Go! Team but really elevated to the next level with 2009's Grand album which featured the hit song "Daylight" which has been featured in various TV Shows, video games, commercials. Additionally, after the release of GrandMatt and Kim performed live on Jimmy Kimmel Live! as well as snagged the "Best Breakthrough Video" from the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
Matt and Kim will now have more eyes watching than ever before when they release their 3rd studio album Nov. 2nd. I think "Cameras" is a good song but I don't think this is the single that is going to launch their next album to the levels that "Daylight" launched them.
