'Dom' Takes Chillwave into the Garage

The genre known as "chillwave" has only been around in the mainstream for the last year or two, but the genre continues to be defined in a different way with every new band that releases under the genre name. Dom is a band that popped up seemingly out of no where earlier this summer with the release of their CD Sun Bronzed Greek Gods. Dom brings more of a garage rock sound to the "chillwave" discussion, and the group continues to remain in mystery even after the release of their CD; none of the last names of the band members have been released and the group still does not have a Wikipedia page.

Dom's album might not be full on "chillwave" (which is a genre I'm normally not too crazy about) in that it's not quite as abstract as groups like Panda Bear and Animal Collective who helped pioneer the genre, but Dom's differences from the aforementioned bands only increase the width of their appeal, in my opinion. They sound very quirky and in my opinion should be a nice summer addition to any avid indie rock music fan. Dom's songs have a distinct pop flavor to them which succeeds best on lead single "Jesus" as well as the opening track "Living in America".

Who knows how long the members of Dom will remain mysterious, but with music as unique and catchy as theirs I'd like to think that the music of Dom at least will make it's way into the indie spot lights.
