This year's big wave rally is going down Friday night at the Grove of Anaheim. The 10th annual Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards will hand out arguably the most impressive batch of big wave awards ever.
The Winter of 09/10 has produced some unbelievable swell activity. El Nino has delivered, and big wave surfers from all across the globe took full advantage. The field of nominees spans 7 countries on 5 continents, including USA, Chile, Tahiti, Australia, South Africa, Brazil, and Germany.
The Ride of The Year is the marquee award, and the 5 nominees are Grant Baker @ Maverick's, Shane Dorian & Mark Healey @ Waimea, Raimana Van Bastolaer @ Teahupoo, Shane Dorian @ Maverick's and Ramon Navarro @ Waimea. Awards for the Biggest Wave, Monster Paddle, Monster Tube, Verizon Wipeout, Surfline Performance and the Billabong Girls Performance are also being handed out.
